After winning the school-wide National Geographic Geo Bee at Wells Middle School, back in early February, eight-grader, Mario Guevara, went on to take an hour long online qualifying test administered by National Geographic. His qualifying test score came back in early March and was good enough to earn him a trip to the New York State Finals in Albany at the New York State Museum.
He was among the top 100 scorers on the National Geographic qualifying test for New York State. This allowed him to make the State Bee. Thousands of kids across New York State tried to get to the state finals, and Mario was one of the 100 who made it.
At the State Bee, Mario tied for 17th place with several other contestants. He missed the final round (the money round) by only one question.
He impressed many people at the State Bee with his knowledge, and we are all very proud of his great accomplishment.
