Board of Education Elections

School Board Elections

Candidates for the Board of Education must file a petition with the District Clerk thirty (30) days before the election. Qualifications for submitting a petition for board membership are as follows:

  1. Must be a U.S. citizen
  2. Must be 18 years of age by the date of the election
  3. Must be and must have been a resident (but need not be a taxpayer) of the district for a continuous and uninterrupted period of at least one year immediately before the election.
  4. Nominating petitions must have at least 46 signatures of qualified voters to be considered.
  5. If any more than 3 people (including incumbent members) file nominating petitions, a drawing will be held to determine the three candidates who will be put on the ballot. Write-in votes are allowed on the ballot the day of the vote.

Qualified Voter: A qualified voter:

  1. Must be a U.S. citizen
  2. Must be 18 years of age by the date of the election
  3. Must be a resident of Brewster for at least thirty days prior to the election.
  4. Registered Voter: A registered voter:
  5. Must be a U.S. citizen
  6. Must be 18 years of age by the date of the election
  7. Registered with the Putnam County Board of Elections to vote in ALL elections.

  1. Registered with the school district to vote in school elections ONLY
