School Board Elections
Candidates for the Board of Education must file a petition with the District Clerk thirty (30) days before the election. Qualifications for submitting a petition for board membership are as follows:
- Must be a U.S. citizen
- Must be 18 years of age by the date of the election
- Must be and must have been a resident (but need not be a taxpayer) of the district for a continuous and uninterrupted period of at least one year immediately before the election.
- Nominating petitions must have at least 46 signatures of qualified voters to be considered.
- If any more than 3 people (including incumbent members) file nominating petitions, a drawing will be held to determine the three candidates who will be put on the ballot. Write-in votes are allowed on the ballot the day of the vote.
Qualified Voter: A qualified voter:
- Must be a U.S. citizen
- Must be 18 years of age by the date of the election
- Must be a resident of Brewster for at least thirty days prior to the election.
- Registered Voter: A registered voter:
- Must be a U.S. citizen
- Must be 18 years of age by the date of the election
- Registered with the Putnam County Board of Elections to vote in ALL elections.
OR
- Registered with the school district to vote in school elections ONLY
