Character Education

We will be sending home with your child in June a book that we would like them to read over the summer. Our selection of this specific book, Dear Mr. Henshaw, was made so that when students return to school in September, we will have a common basis for discussions about character.

At C.V. Starr, respect, responsibility and caring are the themes through which we model, teach and practice good character. Students who go above and beyond with daily behavior are recognized through our Stand Tall Program. Students are recognized through a school-wide announcement, a letter home to their parents and a special luncheon with one of the principals.

At C.V. Starr each homeroom selects a STARR (Students Teaching Attitude Respect and Responsibility) Leader. These student leaders represent their classmates at open forums to decide on how we can improve our school. They also assist with various citizenship functions, such as Senior Citizens Luncheon, school-wide collections, etc.

Our summer reading selections support our character education program. Dear Mr. Henshaw, our 4th grade text and There's a Boy in the Girls' Bathroom, our 5th grade text, were selected to give students and teachers an opportunity to start the year off with discussion about character.
