Dear
Parents:
The 2005 – 06 school year has begun with unprecedented order, calm, and organization. Our students and teachers have quickly acclimated to a new school year that we anticipate will be filled with challenge, accomplishment and fun for all.
Parents, we welcome you into our very special school community, and we invite your active participation, your ideas and suggestions, and your involvement in and support for your child’s school program. Through your involvement in your child’s school life and your attention to their schoolwork, you signal to them that school is important.
When you meet your child’s teachers at our Open House evenings, I know you will be equally impressed as I am with the care and concern, passion and professionalism, energy and enthusiasm which our teachers bring to your children on a daily basis. Their dedication and commitment, coupled with the personal, helping relationships they develop with your child are a key factor in your child’s capacity to continuously improve both academically and personally.
Communication is important to any successful home – school partnership. All of our teachers have three modes of communication available to you and them. They can all be reached via e-mail, their addresses being their first initial and last name (ex. the Principal’s e-mail is dbayer@brewsterschools.org). This is a fast and easy way to give or receive information. All teachers also have their own voice mailboxes set up, and a directory is available on our school number at 279 – 4018. Additionally, all teachers have their own web pages, accessible through the BCSD website (www.brewsterschools.org),and a host of class information and learning links can be found on these sites.
This year both 4th and 5th grade students will be taking New York State Assessments in English Language Arts during the week of Jan. 9 and in Math during the week of March 6. Additionally, 5th grade students will take Social Studies Assessments on Nov. 16 and 17; 4th grade students also take Science Assessments during the week of May 8. Here at C.V. Starr, we recognize that we have two important goals to meet: we want our children to be successful on these tests while also learning through challenging, engaging, hands-on learning experiences. The two goals are not mutually exclusive and we work hard to find the balance that works best.
We are fortunate to be part of a successful and dynamic culture in which we celebrate life, learning and the pursuit of academic excellence; we encourage and inspire a culture of respect; we embrace diversity; and we value the efforts and accomplishments of all members of our school community. We work daily to support each of those elements of our school mission.
Again, every child that walks through our doors deserves our best efforts, our hard work, and all of our love to give them the chance to fulfill their promise. We look forward to both the challenges and the joys of helping each of your children to be the best that they can be.
Our best regards,
Dolores
