Academic Recognition |
| Report Cards |
| Report cards will be issued four times a year. End of marking period dates are listed in the district calendar. Report cards are distributed approximately ten days after these dates. |
| Incompletes |
|
A student has 2 weeks, after the close of the marking period, to make up incomplete grades. |
| Progress Reports |
|
Supplementary Progress Reports will be distributed approximately 5 weeks before and after report cards are issued. Parents are encouraged to contact the teacher and guidance counselor if there are any questions regarding academic achievement. |
| Parent Conferences |
|
Parent conferences can be requested by either parents or teachers. Periodic conferences are encouraged. There will be parent/teacher conferences after the first marking period and report cards have been sent home. Specific dates will be listed in the district calendar. Arrangements for parent/teacher conferences can be made through the Guidance Office at 279-3958. |
| Honor Roll |
|
The middle school presents recognition for outstanding achievement in quarters 1 - 3 in two forms : High Honor Roll and Honor Roll.
* A grade of 73 or below or an "F" (Fail) will exclude a student from both honor rolls. Within the numerical grading system, each teacher develops a procedure for grading which best suits the uniqueness of the subject matter and classroom procedure. Since each subject and classroom is unique, each teacher will present all students with a written summary of this procedure that will also be posted in each classroom. Class participation is included as part of our grading criteria. Excessive absenteeism can have an adverse affect upon academic performance. If you have concerns regarding grades received, discuss your concerns with your teacher in a positive manner at an appropriate time. Discussions like this can lead to an improvement in student performance. Your teachers are interested in your success. |
| Scholars Program |
|
Students who achieve the distinction of maintaining grades that place them on the High Honor Roll for three consecutive marking periods are honored at the Scholars Program held at the end of the school year. |

Once a month (September through May only), two students per grade/team will be selected as Wells’ outstanding students and writers of the month. Two artists, three Foreign Language students (one from each foreign language offered), two physical education students (one boy and girl), three General Music students (one from each grade level), and one student each for Orchestral, Instrumental and Vocal Student of the Month will also be chosen monthly. Students may be nominated and selected for academic excellence, good character, and/or superior effort. In addition to a letter, certificate, and bumper sticker (for Student of the Month only), a special celebration will be held in June to honor our winners. |
