Helping our students to develop as responsible digital citizens and protect them from harmful content online is a goal of the Brewster Central School District. This responsibility can now be shared with parents through BCSD’s application of the Securly Parent Portal. BCSD uses Securly to filter and monitor students activity on their school issued devices.
Beginning this week, parents of students in grades 6-12 will receive a weekly email from Securly.com that will show you a preview of your child’s off campus online activity. You will also have access to view their full browsing history and control what sites they have access to from the Parent Portal. If you do not wish to receive the weekly email from Securly, simply click unsubscribe in the bottom left corner of the email.
To enter the Parent Portal, click on the “Go to my Parent Portal” link, or the “Signup” link at the bottom of your weekly email. You will be asked to check two boxes and then click “Yes, please set up my account.” Once you do this, you will receive an email with login and password information. After you setup your account, you can enter the Parent Portal any time by going to www.securly.com and clicking on “login.”
The Parent Portal contains three categories from which you can choose:
- Activity (shows a real-time audit trail of your child’s activity)
- Flagged (shows posts made on social media that have been flagged by Securly as potentially related to self-harm or bullying)
- Settings (allows you to control content your child has access to on their device at home)
Parents must have an accurate email in the BCSD system. That email can be updated through the Infinite Campus Portal or through the district registrar: firstname.lastname@example.org or (845) 279-8000 x6110.
