On October 3rd, Brewster’s varsity girls tennis team proudly presented a check for $1,120 to Gail Pease for the Brewster Emergency Shelter Partnership to help the homeless.
The team held a Hit and Help fundraiser on September 23rd to raise funds for the charity, which is a new local organization that provides meals and offers a safe, temporary place to sleep in local churches from December through March.
More than 40 people came out to play tennis and support the team’s community service project. Children earned prizes and learned how to play the sport, while adults came out to play with friends new and old.
The same day, the team also honored seniors Nubia Curipoma, Sofia Galizia, Lauren Knorr, and Kristen Stefanick at their last home game.
Each year, the Brewster tennis community comes together for a cause chosen by the captains. The team starts trying to reach their goal in August, with each player working to raise $50 by the end of September. This year, the sixteen-member team raised $1,200 in total.
