Mrs. Lisa Vlicky, a Science Teacher at Brewster High School, informed the District that one of our graduates, Ms. Allie McCarthy, class of 2016, presented her work at the conference of the American Astronomical Society this week. She is quoted in the link below. Ms. McCarthy is studying Astrophysics and Aerospace Engineering at the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa. According to Mrs. Vlichy, “Allie spent this summer working at the Green Bank Observatory in West Virginia, where she analyzed newly discovered fast radio bursts (FRBs)”.  Mrs. Vlicky described FRBs as “brief signals of radio energy emanating from distant galaxies”. She would know.

Congratulations Allie! We are proud of your accomplishments. I hope that Ms. McCarthy returns to the District to share her work with younger students, especially girls at CV Starr and HH Wells. Thank you Mrs. Vlicky for sharing this amazing news with us.
