In case you missed it, the NYSSBA News (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sPMdrZjuFNQ&feature=youtu.be) featured the Mindful Moment Room at Brewster High School. Ms. Jennifer Garry, our communications specialist from Putnam Northern Westchester BOCES, submitted the story to NYSSBA which sent a team to interview students and staff. The Mindful Moment Room serves as a place that students can visit briefly if they are having a bad day and just need to get themselves together. Instead of doing something unproductive, unhealthy or disruptive, students go to the room to get themselves resettled by mediating, reading inspirational quotes or poems, sitting quietly or talking to a student ambassador or adult who is assigned to the room every period. A student visitor may spend about 10-15 minutes there and then returns to class. I want to thank Ms. Nikki Horler, the Principal of Brewster High School and Mrs. Rebecca Archer, Physical Education and Health Teacher at Brewster High School for creating this resource for students. Based upon a daily roster that students sign when they visit the room, a number of students have taken advantage of this calm and peaceful space. The other schools in the District are looking for ways to establish a space like the Mindful Moment Room.
