Parent's Guide to the K-5 Report Card 2019-2020
On behalf of the K-5 Report Card Committee, we would like to introduce our revamped K-5 Report Card for the 2019-20 school year. Beginning in the summer of 2018, K-5 representatives revisited the task of making adjustments to our reporting system in an effort to more clearly communicate student progress for students in JFK Elementary and CVS Intermediate Schools.
We have continued this K-5 report card conversation from several years ago because we are in a different place than where we were even five years ago: the adoption and integration of our Strategic Coherence Plan, the move towards new standards/frameworks at the state level in English Language Arts, mathematics, science, social studies, health and physical education, and the visual and performing arts. Further, the adoption of new curricular resources and the desire from our teaching staff to create a more clear, accurate, aligned and consistent reporting system are driving this effort.
Our objective for the 2018-19 school year was to work within our current reporting structure to make small-scale changes that provided more specific and detailed information about your son/daughter’s progress. For this current year, we have further refined our efforts with some additional large-scale change. This change is explained in greater detail in this handbook and in our FAQ document.
The committee would like to thank the staff and parents who took the time to provide feedback. The committee will be soliciting additional feedback as we implement the changes for the 2019-20 school year.
