STAR Exemption Info (NYS)

Tax Collection is performed by the towns of Southeast and Patterson on behalf of the Brewster Central School District. For residents of Southeast and Carmel, the Town of Southeast accepts tax collections.  For residents of Patterson, the Town of Patterson accepts tax collections. 

The “Tax Cap” has become one of the most controversial and confusing elements of a school budget since its inception in the 2012-13 fiscal year. Most New Yorkers believe that the “Tax Cap” is simply 2%. But there are four main components used in calculating the State’s “Tax Cap” formula, with 2% being just one of them. (And sometimes 2% does not even factor in!) Every school district in New York State has its own unique “Tax Cap”.
