New York State Education Law Section 2-d assures the confidentiality of records with respect to "third parties," and provides parents with the right to consent to disclosures of personally identifiable information contained in their child's education records.

The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) affords parents and students who are 18 years of age or older ("eligible students") certain rights with respect to the student's education records.

PPRA defines the rules state and school districts must follow when administering tools like surveys, analysis, and evaluations funded by the US Department of Education to students. It requires parental approval to administer many such tools and ensures that school districts have policies in place regarding how the data collected through these tools can be used.

If you feel that there has been a breach of students' PII, submit a Data Privacy Violation Complaint Form to the District's Data Protection Officer.

The District will publish an annual public notice informing parents or eligible students (i.e., a student 18 years of age or older or who is attending an institution of post-secondary education) of the District's definition of directory information, the parent or eligible student's right to refuse the release of student directory information and an indication of the time period for their response.
