6th Annual CV Starr Young Innovators STEAM Expo

Students at C.V. Starr Intermediate School presented their inventions and artwork today to the school community at the 6th Annual Young Innovators STEAM Expo. The event, which touts itself as more than just a science fair, combines Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics–encouraged students to explore their interests and talents while solving a problem. Students rose to the challenge.

Invention ideas included: Happy Hub Hound, Power House Cat, Air Mail pneumatic tube for people who can’t go outside in the winter to get their mail, D&L Pet Feeder, Layla Express for pets who need support after a medical procedure, The Super Protector Alarm, Quiet and Colorful Lunch to help lunch monitors control the chaos of the lunch room with light signals instead of their voices, a gym for overweight bearded dragons, a device called Sticky Paw for removing pet hair from furniture and clothes, Better Wear–a watch like bracelet for sunscreen and of course the Sibling Blocker–a car curtain for long drives.

It is clear, these students not only solved a problem, they tapped into their interests and passions. And their presentations were well rehearsed, passionate and authentic. Thank you to C.V. Starr teachers, especially Jackie Fego, for organizing this impressive event.
