Brewster High School Students Explore St. John’s University

Victoria Lowry Memorial Endowment Trip

Brewster High School students had the opportunity to visit St. John’s University in Queens, New York, as part of an educational campus tour led by the BHS Guidance Department and World Language teacher Antonio Franze. The visit gave students a valuable first-hand look at college life, academic programs, and the wide range of resources available at a university.

This experience was made possible through the generous support of the Victoria Lowry Memorial Endowment, which helps ensure Brewster students have access to meaningful college exploration opportunities. During the visit, students participated in a guided campus tour, admissions and campus life information sessions, and conversations with current St. John’s students.

Highlights included visits to St. Augustine Hall and its library, St. Thomas More Church, Carnesecca Arena, the School of Education, and the newly renovated St. Vincent’s Health Sciences Center.

A junior, Geily Alonzo Guerra, went on the trip. It was her first visit to a college.

“I had an amazing time on the St. John’s University tour,” said Geily, “The guides were informative, we got to visit the church on campus which was beyond beautiful. They told us about their abroad program which interested me because I would love to study abroad. St. John’s set the bar high for future visits to other colleges and universities.  I had an amazing time being able to learn about all the things St. John's has to offer such as academics, sports and clubs. St. John's is one of my top 5 after visiting it is an amazing university!”

The trip encouraged students to begin envisioning their postsecondary paths and to take confident steps toward their future educational goals.
