Grin N' Bear It BTA Fundraising 5k + Fun Run

The Brewster Teachers' Association is spearheading its 2d annual 5k walk/run on Saturday October 24,2026 at 10:00 am at C.V. Starr Intermediate School! This year there will also be a 1 mile fun run for kids. Their goal: to raise scholarship money for future leaders.

Did you know that the BTA gives out end of year scholarships for BHS seniors who are pursuing a post secondary education? Did you know that by participating in the run you can help raise money to add to that scholarship fund?

The BTA’s events coordinator, 4th grade Special Education teacher Kathryn Marchionno–who is a runner–and BTA President Paul George came up with the idea of a 5k run to kick off the year and the fundraising efforts.

“Anyone can sign up. You don’t have to run, you can walk or even bear crawl,” said George.

“You don’t even have to walk or run or crawl, you can just donate,” added Marchionno.

Last year there were 130 participants and approximately $7000 was raised. The group is hoping for an even bigger turnout this year. The course will start at CV Starr, from Farm to Market to Foggingtown Road–the heart of the district and Brewster. As the race kicks off, the NJROTC Color Guard and BHS’s Marching Band will be performing.

There are many local sponsors–NYSUT Runs, Lia Honda, Tee'd Up Golf Events (which will be bringing their own golf simulator), FitBody by Krista, Altora Fitness, Stone Home Inspections, and many more. There will be finish line snacks generously provided by Semolina Italian Kitchen.

“There has been an outpouring of support from our sponsors. Each participant will receive a swag bag, t-shirt and medal for finishing,” said George. We are so grateful for the Putnam Sheriff's Department.
