Wells NJHS Induction Ceremony

Wells NJHS Induction Ceremony

33 New Members Celebrated

Thirty-Three members of Henry H. Wells Middle School’s 8th grade class were inducted this morning into the National Junior Honor Society. They were celebrated by teachers, administrators, friends and family.

NJHS was founded in 1929 with the purpose of creating enthusiasm for scholarship; stimulating a desire to render service; promoting leadership; encouraging responsible citizenship; and developing character in secondary school students–there are chapters in all fifty states and schools around the world.

As students walked into the auditorium, “Great Gate of Kiev” from Pictures at an Exhibition was playing over the loudspeakers–the feeling was inspirational.  After a Presentation of the Colors by BHS NJROTC members and the Pledge of Allegiance, Donna Pryce, the adviser to NJROTC and Principal Carlos Rodrigez congratulated students on their achievements and explained the five principles of NJHS membership: character, leadership, service, scholarship, and citizenship and the responsibilities that lay ahead–tying it all together with the Wells theme “Grow Through What You Go Through.”

The executive board of last year’s class, current ninth graders, then spoke to the inductees about how they can make a difference.

Silas DrCarlo, the former President of NJHS referenced Abraham Lincoln on character and said, “NJHS is a club like no other…have fun, shine, be courageous and be kind.”

Superintendent Dr. Michelle Gosh highlighted the district’s new Profile of a Learner, drawing connections of civic engagement and curiosity to the NJHS pillars. She spoke about the journey of learning and encouraged the newest members of NJHS, who are also the oldest students in the school, to “lean in and lead” as they embrace their new roles and the opportunities ahead.

Congratulations to our newest NJHS members!
