Wells Student Government Swearing-In Ceremony

Wells Student Government Swearing-In Ceremony

Important School-Wide Civic Event

Just one day after the national elections, Wells middle school held its own important civic event—the Student Government Swearing-In Ceremony! Families and teacher advisors and administrators gathered proudly this morning to watch as the newly elected student leaders officially took their oaths of office.

The candidates have been hard at work since the end of September, campaigning with creativity and enthusiasm. They designed posters, came up with platforms—just like in a real election—delivered speeches. Candidates all spoke passionately about their visions for the school. Voting took place in social studies classes, and after an exciting election, Kaylee Dwarika-Persad was elected Student Government President and Claire Brondo was elected Student Government Vice President.

Social Studies teacher and Student Government advisor John Gregorio explained the process, "to qualify for the ballot, each candidate gathered 25 student signatures, 2 teacher endorsements, and an administrator’s approval—demonstrating real commitment and leadership."

The ceremony was led by the head of the Social Studies Department Susan Barbato, looking the part of judge in her black college graduation robe as she administered the oath, which was modeled after the official Oath of Office of the President of the United States.

Families beamed with pride as they watched their students take on this new responsibility. “Kaylee practiced her speech at home. I suggested that she record herself to improve. Her brother Cayden even helped out with the campaign. He wore his Vote for Kaylee t-shirt and campaigned for his sister,” said parent Krystal Mohamed.

The newly sworn-in officers are eager to make good on their campaign promises and serve their classmates with integrity, creativity, and school spirit. It was a proud and inspiring moment for the students, their families, and the entire school community
