    PLTW

At C.V. Starr we have embraced the NYS Next Generation Science Standards making sure that we are providing our students with the necessary skills and knowledge to be successful in a changing world. Research shows that students learn effectively when they are actively engaged in the discovery process, often working in small groups and collaborating. This approach allows students to practice problem-solving skills, develop positive science attitudes, learn new science content, and increase their scientific literacy. To meet these demanding standards and to foster a love of all that is STEM, we have chosen Project Lead the Way (PLTW) Launch to drive our STEM curriculum.

PLTW Launch’s interdisciplinary modules bring learning to life. The program empowers students to adopt a design-thinking mindset through compelling activities, projects, and problems that build upon each other and relate to the world around them. As students engage in hands-on activities they become critical thinking, creative, collaborative problem solvers ready to take on any challenge. PLTW helps our students to learn to persevere when something doesn’t work the way they thought it would the first time. PLTW fosters the idea of invention and innovation through trial and error and the importance of strong communication and collaboration to be successful. This year, our CV Starr students will be exposed to modules related to weather including factors and hazards; environmental changes; forces and interactions; energy; variation of traits; coding and robotics.
