    Through the integrated study of number sense, operations, algebra, geometry, measurement, statistics and probability, the New York State Mathematics Curriculum highlights the following learning standards for middle school students.  

    Students will:

    1. understand the concepts of and become proficient with the skills of mathematics;
    2. communicate and reason mathematically;
    3. solve problems using appropriate tools and strategies.
