Brewster Students Accepted Into Prestigious Honor Choir
Three Brewster students are in Rochester, N.Y. this week performing with the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA) Eastern Junior High Honor Choir. Eighth graders, Megan Griffin and Jarrid Bryggman, and ninth grader, Franceska Drejaj, are the first Brewster students ever to be invited into this prestigious choir.
“While our students participate in NYSSMA events throughout the year, this is the first time we are participating in the American Choral Directors Association Eastern Division Conference,” said Brewster’s K-12 Performing Arts Coordinator, Patricia Taylor.
In order to be accepted, students submitted three audition tapes and competed against vocalists from Connecticut, Maine, Maryland, New Hampshire, New York, Pennsylvania, Vermont and Washington D.C.
“They were selected out of literally hundreds of audition tapes for their superior performance to secure a spot in the highly selective ensemble,” Taylor said.
Their choral teacher, Johnna Barrow, is proud of her students’ accomplishment and the opportunities it has afforded them.
“As part of the ACDA Eastern Junior High Honor Choir, Jarrid, Franceska and Megan will rehearse and perform choral music with master conductors from Wednesday, March 4 through Saturday, March 8,” Barrow said. The experience will conclude with a final concert on Saturday.
“Choral Directors from all over the Eastern seaboard will be attending the ACDA Eastern Division Conference where they will have the opportunity to attend these rehearsals and the final concert,” Taylor added.
Bravo to Jarrid, Franceska and Megan for their perseverance, dedication and putting Brewster on the ACDA Junior High Honor Choir ensemble roster for the first time!
