Brewster High School Brings Arthur Miller’s The Crucible To The Stage
Brewster High School students will perform The Crucible by Arthur Miller, a central work in the American canon, on November 3, 4 and 5, at 7 pm, at the Brewster Performing Arts Center. Although it takes place in the seventheenth century in Salem, Massachusetts–a community engulfed by hysteria over witch trials–this play is relevant and exciting today.
“This show is truly unlike any show I've done before. It's incredibly unique in that I have been entrusted to portray the true emotions of a real person, who went through a traumatic experience,” said Katherine Sullivan, a sophomore playing the role of Elizabeth Proctor. “It challenges my acting skills, as I've rarely dealt with such a serious and intense role. For the same reason, I feel it adds to the excitement of the role.”
Matthew Kilman said, “I play the lead character of John Proctor. One of the most difficult things about playing John was getting into the character himself. John Proctor is a man with so much built up and repressed guilt and to portray that was tedious. On the other hand, John Proctor was fun to get into sometimes. As a naturally loud man, to be able to scream at the top of my lungs is very fun to do, especially for an audience when it conveys so much emotion.”
The role of Abigail Williams is played by Arianna Arocho. She said, “Abigail is an extremely feisty and psychotic young girl who is one of several children who falsely accuses her neighbors of witchcraft. I am thrilled to be able to play the role of Abigail. It’s been so interesting to perform something that has happened in our history.
Tickets for this performance can be bought at the door or online at Brewsterschools.org.
