NAHS Induction Ceremony and Art Show

The BHS National Art Honor Society provides national recognition and opportunities for students who exhibit outstanding scholarship in the visual arts, and for their teachers. Participation in NAHS provides students, faculty, school, and the community with invaluable benefits—including peer recognition, leadership growth opportunities, college and career preparation, recognition of the BHS art program, and so much more.

Today, students, staff and family gathered in the BHS PAC for the NAHS Induction Ceremony and Art Show to celebrate the artistic milestone of students.

“Induction is a tribute to your creativity and dedication and reflects your talent. I am inspired,” said Vice Principal Lauren Cole.

The celebration was personal and interactive and the auditorium was transformed into a creative space when students got up to share their talents. Two students performed a duet-Hannah Meyer played the flute while Mikaela Russano sang. Another student, Sebastian Bernizoni, read from his published works of poetry. After that, students received their awards: a certificate of achievement and for the seniors a rainbow-colored cord to wear at graduation. As students were called up, the audience got to see their artwork on a slide.

The club does many meaningful projects over the course of the year including banners for Homecoming, a craft fair over the holidays, face painting at the Adapted Physical Education field day, and the Memory Project in which students create portraits of children in underprivileged countries. They also get to go on field trips including to the Dia Center for the Arts in Beacon.

Rae Miller, president of the club, got up to say a few words.

“I always loved art, but I lacked a community. Art is a connectedness between people. This club has given me community, has expanded my mind and creativity.”

Thank you to beloved art teacher Janet-Lyn Tallevi who not only ran the induction ceremony, but who oversees the entire year-long endeavor!
